Dharma is a Hindu word meaning "the way of life", or if you put it in more philosophical way,
it is the law that connects everything in universe no matter how different they are. That is
the very essence of the band Up Dharma Down - four people having very diverse musical tastes and
yet able to come together to produce harmony that connects their similarities. Composed of
Armi Millare (vocals/keyboards/guitar), Carlos Tanada (lead guitar), Ean Mayor (drums) and
Paul Yap (bass), the band attributes their music influences to various music greats
ranging from
Jill Scott, Robert Plant, Janis Joplin, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, The Doors,
The Cure, Incognito, Spyro Gyra, Zero 7, Photek, Portishead and even
John Williams.
The result is dynamic sound that is not your typical run-of-the-mill pop tune, but still
appeals to a certain group of listeners everywhere. Even the
British Broadcasting Corporation
has called them "the local band most likely to break into the international market."
